Applying for Medicare Parts A and B
New to Medicare? The first thing you needs to do is enroll in Parts A (hospital insurance) and B (medical insurance). Medicare Parts A and B are the two parts of Original Medicare, a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older or have certain disabilities. Enrollment is done through the Social Security Administration and takes less than 30 minutes. (The links below will take you to their site.)

Part D plans will help cover the costs for outpatient prescrition drugs, including brand-name, generic, and specialty medications. Each plan has a list of covered drugs, called a formulary. Anyone with Medicare is eligible for Part D, regardless of income, health status, or current prescription expenses. Part D costs include a monthly premium, yearly deductible, and additional costs for prescriptions called copays or coinsurance. Please note that if you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes prescription drugs, you do not need to enroll in a separate Part D plan.
